About the Trust

Munshi Premchand Gramin Pustkalay sets up and runs village libraries so that rural students — especially those from poor families — get books, study material, a quiet place to study and guidance for their careers.

Why the Trust exists

Students in villages often cannot compete with students from developed areas and privileged families, and many leave their studies for lack of money or guidance. The Trust aims to build a chain of good libraries, panchayat by panchayat, that give these students equal access to books, study material and guidance.

Beyond books, the libraries are places for the constructive development of young minds: competitions, career counselling, skill training and work for the environment.

Our libraries

The first library opened in Sarwan village, Deoghar district, Jharkhand, on 19 December 2010. A second library was opened at Bhiayadih Gidhanda, also in Deoghar district, on 5 March 2016.

See Our Libraries for opening hours and details.
